Author Appearances and Conversations

Over the years, I have participated in interviews, podcasts, book discussions, and other featured appearances where I have been able to talk about both my writing and my personal experiences.

These conversations have covered subjects ranging from my journey as a writer to my experiences growing up as one of the first blind students to integrate public schools when federal laws allowed children with disabilities to be educated alongside their peers.

I have also spoken about parenting, disability, accessibility, books, creativity, and the experiences that have helped shape my perspective.

These appearances provide another way for readers to discover the person behind the books while giving me the opportunity to connect with people who may be encountering my work for the first time.

Books, Writing and Community

Events can create connections that are difficult to reproduce anywhere else.

A reader may arrive because of a particular book and leave with a new perspective on writing. Someone working on a manuscript may discover that another author has experienced similar creative challenges. An audience member may hear a personal story that encourages a different way of thinking about disability or accessibility.

Those connections are an important part of why I value opportunities to engage with readers and audiences.

My writing is rooted in storytelling, but storytelling does not have to remain between the covers of a book. Conversations, interviews, presentations, and community events can all create opportunities for stories to reach people in new ways.
