I am Jo Elizabeth Pinto, an award winning author and speaker. Through Bright Side Author, I am available for speaking engagements where authentic storytelling can create meaningful connections with audiences.
My experiences have given me many stories to tell. I was among the first blind students to integrate public schools in the 1970s when federal laws allowed children with disabilities to be educated alongside their peers. I went on to earn two college degrees, become an author of six books, work as an editor and Braille proofreader, raise a family, and share my experiences through interviews, podcasts, features, and public presentations.
Those experiences provide a foundation for speaking about resilience, storytelling, leadership, communication, overcoming challenges, self advocacy, perseverance, and personal growth.

My life has included experiences that required exactly that.
Growing up as a blind student during a period of significant change in public education gave me an early perspective on adapting to environments that were not always designed with disability in mind.

Storytelling and the Power of Words
Storytelling has shaped much of my professional life.
I am the author of six books spanning fiction, young adult literature, memoir, and poetry. My debut novel, The Bright Side of Darkness, received a First Place Indie Book Award for Inspirational Fiction.
Best selling author Jim Stovall described the book as one that “...introduces us to characters that take us on a rollercoaster ride of adventure and discovery.”
My writing has continued with books including Braided Love, Unbroken Love, Daddy Won’t Let Mom Drive the Car: True Tales of Parenting in the Dark, and Dancing with the Seasons: A Year in Simple Verse.
Writing across different genres has shown me how many ways there are to connect with an audience.
